Freedom is the condition in which people have the opportunity to speak, act and pursue happiness without unnecessary external restrictions. And I believe that children today have more freedom than before, which is a blessing.
First of all, it is undeniable that parents today are snowed under and pressured by a lot of work because our society is becoming rapidly competitive and progressive. As a result, they tend to have less time spent with their children back home. In other words, children turn out to face lesser surveillance from their parents. For instance, when my sister, who is 10 years older than me, was a toddler, she faced much rougher supervision of my parents. But when I was at the same age, my parents had to run different businesses to pay the bills and improve their family living conditions, so I ended up enjoying a lot more freedom.
Next, technology nowadays undoubtedly has made tremendous progression: entertainment, communication, learning can be carried out by just a few inches big phone. Freedom has definitely changed its form. It is no longer the physical freedom we used to think about, but it is the freedom of perception. For example, children are able to learn about a variety of cultures around the world through series of National Geography’s videos or observe any religious practices in any corner around the globe the in CNN Belief section with one click. Consequently, children today are exposed to a lot of different kinds of information and receive different kinds of critical interaction.
All in all, I strongly believe that children today possess much more freedom in the past, with a great deal of positive impacts.
